Toxic Audio
Ring a bell? Yeah, me either- until tonight. Toxic Audio is a new show at the Luxor that unfortunately you'll probably really have to pay attention to realize that it's even here. The only reason that I had heard about it was because we have some friends who work at the Luxor who have been bugging us to go and see it. Finally, we took them up on their offer and boy am I glad that we did! The show was phenomenal! It is an acappella quintet, but these aren't your high school Madrigal singers. In a nut shell, the premise is showcasing all of the amazing things that you can do with the human voice and the art of amplification. Yes, I said art. The sound man is just as much a part of the group as the singers from controlling dynamics to reverb and vocal loops. They did amazing renditions of popular songs that if you closed your eyes and listened you would have a hard time telling that there was absolutely no instrumentation. I was so impressed with the talent, skill and creativity of the group. The soprano was awesome at scat and the alto could belt almost effortlessly. Don't even get me started on the tenor who puts most women to shame! They did a great number honoring their sound man which was very original and appropriate. There wasn't a weak-link in the group at all, and I'm usually very critical! There are lots of shows on the Strip and as locals we usually miss them all, but if you are a serious singer/musician do whatever you can to go see this show. Shows like this can't survive without word of mouth and a few butts in the seats. Do your part to let hotel owners know that we'd rather see real talent and ability than silicone jigglers slutting up the stage in bras and g-strings (although, that does have a place of it's own.). For more info check out www.toxicaudio.com and call the Luxor for tickets. (No, I did not get a third job in promotion.)
